After high school graduation, she stayed at home to help her mother on the family farm. After marriage, Mary Ellen & Maynard farmed in the Chapin & Swaledale area for a number of years. After they quit farming she went to work at Mercy Hospital as a nursing assistant for eight years. She later worked at Park Hospital in the surgery dept. until retirement at age 65. After staying home for one year, she then went to work at Good Shepherd until age of 82. She volunteered for both Mercy Hospital and Good Shepherd.
Mary Ellen was a loving mother and loved people. She enjoyed sewing and made many beautiful quilts that she gave to relatives. She liked to knit and crochet and made many afghans. She and her husband loved to travel and go camping. She especially liked taking her 2 grandsons camping and fishing.
