C. Truett Smith was a prominent business man and civic leader of Wylie. He came from two lines of pioneer families who settled in Collin county at its beginning. His maternal great-grandfather, James Anderson, came to Peter's Colony as an emigrant and headrighted 640 acres of land in 1850. His paternal grandfather was John Wesley Smith, a former County commissioner of Collin County. Mr. Smith was president of the Texas Banker's Association and was a banker since 1945. He was Chairman of the Board of Governors of Collin Memorial Hospital in McKinney. He was past president of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce and was one of the original organizers of the North Texas Munnicipal Water District.
