Joe Henry Lee "Paw" Carlile, 82, of Lake Charles died at 12:02 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010, at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Mr. Carlile is survived by his wife, Dortha (Gage) Carlile; three sons, Joe Carlile Jr. (Cheryl) of Big Lake, Jerry Carlile (Peggy) of Lake Charles and Jimmy Carlile (Jessica) of Midland, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn Phillips of Lamesa, Texas, and Redempta Ramsey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy, Billy Don and Lonnie Wayne; and three sisters, June Pence, Joy Crimm and Wanda Jean Carlile. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.
Born July 18, 1927, in Mountain View, Okla., to Roy Boland Carlile and Willie Viola (McGwire) Carlile, Mr. Carlile spent a long and successful career in the field of petroleum exploration and production, working for Carl B. King Drilling until 1963 and then as a drilling superintendent for Conoco until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Carlile served as a staff sergeant in the Army's 8th Cavalry in 1947 and 1948 in occupied Japan.
Mr. Carlile was a proud servant of God, country and family. As a member of Enterprise Boulevard Church of Christ for nearly 47 years, he served the congregation in a variety of ways and often before he was asked. With a spirit of generosity both in words and deeds, Mr. Carlile was always quick with a joke or a piece of gum, and was known as "Paw" to many more than his grandchildren alone.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, in Johnson Funeral Home. Paul Franks will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today, July 5, and from 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net.
