William A Cross Jr. was the son of William Alexander Cross Sr and Dora Bell Jones. Born while his father was stationed in Texas during the border wars before WWI, he lived on numerous Army bases until his father died in 1925. His mother returned to Asheboro, NC where Bill finished school and the went to work for McCrary Mills. Bill served in the Army & NC Guard prior to WWII and in the US Navy in WWII. He was stationed at various locations in CA. After the war the family returned to Asheboro, NC where he continued to work as a knitter for McCrary Mills until the early 1960s. They lived in rental homes on Sunset Extension and Memorial Drive. In 1951 they built a home at 810 Lewis Street. In the early 1960 he became the Owner/Realtor of Cross Realty & Construction in Greensboro, NC. There they lived at 307 Tate Street across from UNCG. Bill and Bea had a son James Michael Cross, living in FL as of 2011 and a daughter Nancy Louise who died as an infant in 1952.
