He was born in Pittsburgh and lived much of his life there, though he also lived in Shaler at least while the 1930 Census was taken.
At various times in the Census and city directories, he is listed as a clerk, surveyor (or a rod and chain man), and a real estate agent.
He apparently never married, and took care of his mother at the end of her life. Marie Emeigh (my grandmother, his sister-in-law) later said that he was good to his mother. Her house at 103 Orchard Ave. in Shaler was left to him.
Mr Lowery, at the end of his life, lived at the Pittsburgh Association for the Improvement of the Poor, apparently penniless. His occupation was listed as advertising distributor. The Assoc was located at 428 Duquesne Way, where Gateway Center stands today.
[There is one record for a Robert G Lowery of the correct age and city who was a Private with the Pennsylvania National Guard, 14th Infantry, Company A, from May 7, 1900 through June 24, 1901. I believe this is him as there is not another Robert G Lowery who was a clerk and lived in the city at the time.
If this is the same Robert G, then he was 5 ft 7 1/2 in tall, with "Light comp. Brown eyes. Light hair."]
