Arlin was born July 27, 1922, in Dalton, the son of Elmer J. and Etta M. (Steiner) Amstutz, and was a 1939 graduate of Dalton High School. Arlin was an excellent student. He skipped one grade and graduated at age 16, making him the youngest of his high school graduating class. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Civilian Public Service and later attended the University of Akron. Arlin was united in marriage to Norma Jean Pollock on September 24, 1949, in Orrville. She survives. He was the accountant, and also, served as the secretary/treasurer of the former Bob Snyder Ford and C. S. Snyder Ford dealership's of Orrville. Arlin attended the Orrville Christian Church, and was previously a member of the Orrville Christian Missionary & Alliance Church, where he was active in the choir and the men's quartet. He had enjoyed investing in the stock market, and classical and gospel music.
Arlin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always put the needs of others above his own. And although he was a quiet spirit, he had a great sense of humor and dry wit. He enjoyed crafting such comments, saying them quietly and watching people understand and then laugh.
