John C. Chafin, Sr. 80 of Huntington, WV died March 24, 2006 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born June 19, 1925 in Logan, WV to the late Don and Mary Mounts Chafin. His wife Helen Lee Brooks Chafin; sisters Charlotte Schradin, Lily Hazel Chafin; Mary Francis Volker; brothers J. Arthur Chafin, William A. Chafin and M.R. "Chick" Chafin also preceded him in death. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII, was a graduate of Marshall University, President of Chafin Coal Company from 1965 to 1985, served on the Board of Directors for the Guaranty National Bank, the Advisory Board of the Huntington National Bank West Virginia, and the Board of Advisors for the Huntington YMCA. He served as Vice President of the Huntington Art Museum and as National Director of the National Skeet Shooting Association. He is survived by his daughter Jane Chafin of Las Vegas, NV; sons John C. Chafin, Jr. of Wilmington, NC, Arthur B. Chafin of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren John C. Chafin, III, Sarah Chafin Parson, Christopher Chafin; great grandchild Sophia Jane Parson; and one sister Jeanne Gilmore of Augusta, GA. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2006 2:00pm at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church, Huntington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Beard Mortuary, Huntington is in charge of the arrangements.
