Pvt US Army; WWII (Military Marker)

Jim enlisted in the Army on 14 Nov 1941. He was an Ambulance Orderly in Company D, 101st Medical Regiment and Co. A, 121st Medical Battalion from 23 Jan 1942 to 27 Nov 1943: His unit was part of the first US Army unit to deploy to the Pacific.

Uncle Jim served in Australia, New Caledonia, and Guadalcanal. He sent a "V-Mail" home to his sister describing one night when he was in his foxhole and the bombs were bouncing him off the ground.

He contracted malaria and recovered in Fiji and McCaw General Hospital, Walla Walla, Washington before being honorably discharged 3 Feb 1944.

Uncle Jim was a quiet man and he never married. He worked in the orange groves until 1962 and then worked at the Douglas gas station in Mentone, California for many years.

He moved back to Arkansas late and life and lived with his brother, Alvin.
