ADDISON - Robert G. Wass IV, 70, died Aug. 28, 2005, at home. He was born Oct. 28, 1934, in the Cape Split section in Addison, the son of Robert G. Wass and Nola (Lakeman) Wass. He graduated from Jonesport High School in 1951, and went to work on the Great Lakes on the ore carrier "Henry Steinbrenner" until he joined the U.S. Air Force in December 1951. He served in Korea and Japan in 1952 and 1953, and then returned to March Air Force Base in Edgemont, Calif., where he met and married Joyce Lee Brickman in June 1956, the daughter of Harvey W. and Waunita (Melvin) Brickman of Edgemont, Calif. They built a home in Sunnymead, Calif., where they lived until their return to Maine. He worked as an apprentice carpenter for his father-in-law, who was a general contractor who built custom homes, until his father-in-law retired. He then worked for another contractor building septic systems, grading, mixing and delivering cement to job sites until his employers death. He then went to work driving a tractor trailer for the "Alamo Markets", a four store grocery chain, and worked extra time learning the grocery business, where he went from apprentice clerk to store manager, then to vice-president and general manager of the stores for 18 years, until he and his wife bought and ran a small general store in Lakeview, Calif., where he did custom meat cutting for 13 years, until they sold their business, retired and moved back to his place of birth at Cape Split. He became a master mason in Jonesport Lodge No. 188 AF & AM in 1956. He was also a charter "Junior Warden" of Moreno Valley Masonic Lodge No. 804 AF & AM, where he was master in 1962.
