Ross Burgess, 92, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 14, 2003. Funeral services
were conducted Feb. 17 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home,
with burial in Newton Cemetery. David Dalton officiated.
Mr. Burgess was born Nov. 23, 1910 in Cumberland County, TN, the son of
Fancy Hill and Recie Croft Burgess.
He was a carpenter and served in the Navy. He was a member of the Church of
Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Wyatt Burgess; daughters and son-in-law,
Margie and Douglas Wyatt, Lou Parker and Antha Drake; sons, James, Claude,
Wintford and Ronald Burgess; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; brothers, Foster Burgess, Otto Burgess, Carl Burgess
and Kent Burgess; and sister, Ollie Parker and Geneva Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Travis,
Ross Jr. and Charles Burgess; brothers, Semp Burgess, Arlen Burgess, Dallas
Burgess and Ralph Burgess; Bertha Vanwinkle; Rosalee Vanwinkle; and an
infant sister.
Pallbearers were Rocky Burgess, Rodger Burgess, Tony Burgess, Danny Hodge,
Danny Boles, Aaron Wyatt and Ted Loden.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the
arrangements.
