Myra was born August, 1, 1940 in Dallas, the first of seven children born to Chester Alton Sanders and Ethel Greenwade McMahan. She moved to Whitney at the age of 12. She graduated from Whitney High School in 1958 and married her high school sweetheart Tommy Leon Booth on July 5, 1958. Together they raised two children, and enjoyed spoiling their five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She attended Hill College and Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center to earn her Registered Nurses degree in 1970. She worked at Whitney Hospital for 17 years and served as Director of Nurses. After a brief period of semi-retirement she was hired as school nurse for Whitney I. S. D. and cared for the students and staff there for 16 years.
