Son of Benjamin & Anna Gray Tinkham, he married Sarah Ann Hills on Oct. 2, 1838 in Warren Co, IL. They had 7 children includng Ira Allen, Jasper Newton, Benjamin Lester, Sarah Jane, and Caroline Augusta Tinkham who married Clark Bone.

Tnkham, Benjamin, The Venerable Tinkham for 52 years a resident of this section died on his farm 7 miles west of Abingdon, Wednesday nightafter two weeks of Illiness of heard disease, aged of 75 years. He was a native of Vermont. Married 1838. He was Sincear a christian having for 70 years been a member of M.E. Church. He was always a Republican. For 52 years spent all his time farming west of here. A long list od survivors, three sons, Ira Tinkham of Neb., Mr. Jasper and Benjamin who live near the old farm, Mrs. Caroline Bone of Chicago.
