Obituary: Rites Pending for L.H. Finch, Former Mayor

Former Crosbyton Mayor L. H. Finch died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday , 27 Oct, 1965, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are pending at King Funeral Home.

Lee Finch was born on Nov. 29, 1908, in Chillicothe, Hardeman County, and was a graduate of Childress High School. After two years in Deaf, Smith County, he moved with his family to Crosby County in 1930 and he was engaged in farming.

He was married to Ina Steadham in 1932. He had been in the grocery and restaurant business along with his agricultural interests at Hereford.

Finch served on the Crosbyton School Board from 1948 until 1951 and was president of the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce in 1953. He was elected a member of the City Council in 1954 and served one four year term before being elected Mayor in 1958. He served as City Mayor until April, 1964.

He was selected Crosbyton's Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1956.

Lee Finch is survived by his wife, Ina; one son, Jimmy of Hot Springs, Ark.; 10 sisters, Mrs. M. M. Dunson of Greenfield, Calif., Mrs. Daisy Relch of Houston, Mrs. Ruby Peachy of Temple, Mrs. Ira Ott of Hereford, Mrs. J. M. Dawson of Hereford, Mrs.S. P. Starrett of Crosbyton, Mrs. G. H. Logan of Tucson, Arizona, Mrs. W. A. Miller of Lubbock, Mrs. J. C. Mayfield of Seminole and Mrs. Thomas Honeycutt of Temple, and two granddaughters.
