John Deere Cady was a golfer who competed in the 1904 Summer Olympics. In 1904 he was part of the American team that won the silver medal.

JOHN DEERE CADY, secretary of the
Sylvan Steel Works, Moline, was born
in New York city, January 26, 1866, and is
a son of Merton Y. and Alice (Deere) Cady,
whose sketch appears elsewhere in this volume.
When but six years of age he was
taken by his parents to Chicago, where the
succeeding five years were spent. In that
city he began his education in the public
schools, and on the removal of the family
to Moline in 1877, he entered the public
schools of that city. When sixteen years
of age he entered Phillips Academy, Andover,
Massachusetts, from which he graduated
two years later.
In 1896 he was engaged with the Sylvan
Steel Company as time keeper, and
went through various promotions till he was
made secretary of the company, a position
which he now acceptably fills. He is a
stockholder in the Davis Company, plumbers
of Moline and Rock Island, and was
formerly a stockholder in the Moline Elevator
Company.
At Louisville, Kentucky, April 30, 1896,
Mr. Cady was united in marriage with Miss
Clara Gilmore, a daughter of Emily Ward
Gilmore, of that city. They now make their
home at No. 1213 Eleventh avenue.
Politically he is a Republican by birth
and inclination. While at Andover he was
a member of the K. O. A. , a fraternal society
connected with the academy. In the
social circles of Moline and Rock Island
both occupy a prominent place, and have
many warm friends.
