Israel was born in Rosedale, Lawrence Twp. He was perhaps named for his father's uncle, Israel Hart, who died in 1835. He married Susan D. Mershon on 12 Oct. 1859 in Lawrence Twp. They had 12 children together, all linked below.

He was a Quaker, and living in Lawrence Twp., 1880. He ran the Red Tavern in Princessville.

A precious one from us has gone,
