Barbara Ann "Barbie" Kimball, 12, of Marengo, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, from injuries in a car accident.

She was born Jan. 27, 1998, in Woodstock, to James and Susan, nee Blust, Kimball. Her dad preceded her in death when she was 5 years old. At age 6, she was blessed with a stepfather, Donald Steffan, who has loved and cared for her as his own.

She had just completed her sixth-grade year at Zion Lutheran School in Marengo. A girl of many interests, she especially loved reading; her favorite author was Erin Hunter. She had a scientific and inquiring way of looking at things as well deep compassion, making her a blessing to everyone. She had an active imagination and was as "smart as a whip." She had a way of remembering everything. She loved the outdoors and was a "young explorer," often finding hunting rocks, seashells and frogs. She loved bright colors, flowers and gardening. Her favorite thing always was whatever she was doing at the time because she loved the people she was doing it with.

She leaves behind her parents, Donald and Susan Steffan; her brothers and sisters, Donny, Sarah (fiancée David), Carolanne, Rachel, Kelly, Ruth, Naomi and Joshua; her grandparents, Ralph and Barbara Blust, Marvin and Beverly Kimball, Wesley and Florence Steffan, and Robert and Diana Oleskow; her great-grandma, Rose (Blust) Moudry; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Jim Kimball.

The visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Zion Lutheran Church, 408 W. Jackson St., Marengo. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 3, at the church. She will be laid to rest next to her father in Oakland Cemetery in Woodstock.
