Charlotte was first married to Theophilus Hanford Powers in 1802 at Washington Co., Ohio. They were divorced in 1811.

It was said that "she ran away with a man with the last name of McAtee". It is not known if they were married or not. Each of her children born during the years of 1811-1816 retained the surname of DEVOL.

** Please Note**
The above has been proven not to be true. DNA proves that at least Horatio Nelson Devol has the MALE parentage surname of "WING" Christine Wardlow a direct descendant had the DNA workup done on her father before his death in 2011.

In 1816 records are found of her marriage to Abner Scribner they had 4 children in this union.
Bradford E. Scribner(1820),
Benjamin Franklin Scribner (1825),
Louisa Scribner (1826), and
Cynthia Scribner (1828).
Abner died in Memphis, Tennessee in 1827. His grave has not been found as of this date.
