Veteran of Vietnam War [U.S. Navy].From The Spokesman- Review: 30 June 2010:
HANSEN, Richard Charles (1953-2010; Age 57) Richard passed away in his home on Sunday, June 27. He was born in Corvallis, MT and graduated Freeman HS in '71. He served four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a long-term member of the Laborer's Union #238. He lived in Valleyford most of his life. He's survived by a loving family, many friends, and neighbors who miss him dearly. Services held Saturday, July 3 at 10:00am at Freeman-Evergreen Cemetery followed by a potluck at his home in Valleyford open to anyone wishing to pay respects. Spokane Cremation & Burial Service, Spokane, WA

From The Service Card handed out at his serivce:
Ric was born to Ted and Esther Hansen on January 7, 1953 in Corvallis, MT. He was the youngest of Five children. Growing up he especially loved his uncles, his cousins and going to the farm. He attended Valleyford Elementary School and Freeman High Schoool where he formed a tight-knit group of friends that he stayed closed to for many years.

After graduating in '71 Ric followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Navy. He took an occupational placement test that told him he could have any crreer in the navy except an eningeer so that is exactly ehat he chose to do . Ric served on the U.S.S. Hector for four years during the Vietnam War.

After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Hamilton, MT, and worked building log homes. There he pursued his love of motorcycles and met Debb. They married on August 16, 1980 and moved back to Valleyford where their oldest Cliff was born. Ric started a career in road construction and Holly was was born. A few years later the family moved to the land that Ric had picked out with his father some years earlier. He was extremely proud to own land. Kristal was born a short while later.

Ric loved being an uncle and teaching his nephews and great nephews to work on cars, target and trap shoot, and how to work on the land. He worked long hard hours and in his spare time was always helping family and neighbors whether it was tilling gardens, plowing people out in the winter, or fixing cars and roofs. Ric built a fishing pond because his father had always wanted one and spent years teaching the kids how to fish in it. He loved raising animals, camping, baseball games, and driving his race car. He volunteered to lead Cliff's Cub Scout Troop and often had bonfires that could last all weekend.

Above all else, Ric treasued his family (included a large extended family), friends and neighbors. He would dod anything to help them out even if it met traveling across the country to Alabma to fix cousin Judy's roof right after her husband passed (it didn't hurt that she needed it done duriing Mardi Gras!)

Although he loved spending time with and buying fudgecicles for his great neices and nephews - being the youngest of five - he had to wait a long time for the grnadchild he always wanted. Ric was so excited to be a grandfather and it seemes like he expected Dylan to be about five when he was born. In preparing for this he bought his grandson a rocking horse and tried to teach him to ride the tractor and four-wheller, before Dylan could even hold up his head.

Ric is survived by his mother, four siblings, wife and three children, one grandchild, 8 nieces and nephews, 14 grand nieces, and nephews and 2 1/2 great grand nieces and nephews, numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and everyone who is here today or wishes that the could be.
HAPPY TRAILS.
