Raymond M. Buckley, age 86, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Saturday evening, December 23, 2006, at the White Ridge Care Center in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was born in El Dorado, Kansas, on July 3, 1920, the son of Leroy and Myrtle Pryor Buckley.
He grew up in Benton County, Missouri, and graduated from Warsaw High School in the class of 1937. He was married to Margrete Lovejoy at Hastain, Missouri, in 1937. They made their home in the Hastain community. Unto this union three daughters and one son were born.
In March of 1944 he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force serving as a veteran of World War II.
On January 8, 1955, Raymond married Luella Vandever. Following their marriage they made their home in Warsaw where they owned and operated Buckley's Antique Shop. Besides their antique business Raymond served as Post Master at the U.S. Post Office in Warsaw retiring in 1974 after nineteen years of service. Unto this union one son was born. She preceded him in death on October 20, 1983.
On February 28, 1985, Raymond was united in marriage to Imogene Love. They made their home in Warsaw. They continued the antique business traveling extensively throughout the Midwest delivering and buying antiques. They also enjoyed visiting "the boats" to try their hand at the slots. And on occasion they were able to bring home a little extra cash. In any case it was time well spent for Raymond and Imogene. They had recently moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri, due to their failing health. Imogene preceded him in death just five weeks ago on November 18, 2006.
Raymond was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warsaw. He served as a fireman with the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department for nineteen years. He was a Fifty-year member and Past Master of Shawnee Masonic Lodge #653 of Warsaw. He was a member of the Kansas City Valley of the Scottish Rite Bodies and he was a member of the Legion of Honor of the Ararat Shrine of Kansas City and the Warsaw Shrine Club. He was a member of the Osage Valley Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Warsaw, American Legion Post #217 and John Reser Memorial VFW Post #5893 in Warsaw and he was a charter member of the Benton County Elks Lodge #2783.
Raymond was also preceded in death by one son, Kenney Buckley, two daughters, Laura "Corky" Lane and Juanita Stoneking Murphy, and one sister, Betty Findley.
He is survived by one son, Wayne V. Buckley, of Kansas City, Missouri, five daughters, Roberta Henderson, and Deana Cole, both of Warsaw, Carole Morland, of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Martha Church and Wilma Strickland, both of Lee's Summit, Missouri, twenty-three grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2006, at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw. Burial will be in the Mossy Cemetery near Edwards, Missouri. Visitation will be from Noon to 1:00 P.M. Thursday prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospitals in care of the funeral home.
