WILKES COUNTY MAN SHOOTS DOWN VISITOR
Claims Self-Defense and Calls Sheriff After Homicide to Come Get Him.

North Wilkesboro, Oct. 10. - C. F. (Lum) Anderson, 40, is dead and Fred Glass in jail at Wilkesboro as the result of a shooting scrape which occurred late last night at the home of Glass in the Call community. Anderson was shot through the chest in the region of the heart and then advanced upon him about midnight and died a short while later.
Glass called Sheriff W. B. Somers this morning, asking for officers to come and get him. He claims that Anderson came to his home, started a quarrel and then advanced upon him with a knife when he stopped him with a bullet from his pistol. Friends of Glass, who wer ar his home at the time the shooting occurred corroborate his story.
Both of the men are alleged to have been drinking heavily last night and at 9 o'clock this morning Glass was till too much under the influence of liquor to give an intelligent version of the shooting. He is married and has a family of four.
Anderson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Samantha Anderson, and two children, Willie and Oralee. The funeral service will be held at Mt. Sinai church tomorrow morning.
