WESTMAN, AUDREY MARIE DENNISS -- A San Diego native, Audrey passed away peacefully due to complications from Alzheimer's disease, with her family by her side. She will be missed by her loving family: children, Donald Westman (Daina) of Painesville, OH, Kathy Crampton (Charlie), Keith Westman (Shari), David Westman, all of San Diego; and grandchildren, Nicole De Lamarter (David), Ashley Westman, Lindsay Crampton, Kelcey Lehrich (Alyssa), and Emily Westman.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Westman (1994), and sisters, Eileen Smith (2007) and Carol Rogers (1978). Audrey grew up helping at the family bakery in Chula Vista, CA, where she developed a life-long love for pastries and an insatiable sweet tooth; this she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
After graduating from Sweetwater High School (1940), she worked as a secretary at a mortuary, but left to work at a bank, because it was "a boring job, too dead" at the cemetery. She loved attending USO dances and enjoyed cuttin' the rug! Her bank position lasted for a few years before she served in the Navy military women's WAVES from 1944 to 1946.

A blind date led to her marriage to Jim Westman in 1948. They raised their four children in the College Area and Allied Gardens before settling in La Mesa. As a mom, she was always there for her children whether it was serving as a Camp Fire Girl leader, Cub Scout den mother or helping out with their youth sports teams.

After Jim retired from Sears, they enjoyed traveling the globe (Panama Canal, New Zealand, Europe) and brought back pictures for family slide shows and souvenir dolls for grandchildren. Their favorite mode of travel was freighters and canal boats where passengers were few, the pace slow and the views spectacular. They also enjoyed several cruises with their longtime friends, the Whitcombs and the Fullertons.

Audrey was a member of the Epsilon Pi Theta Sorority for over 50 years. This gave her a lifelong group of beloved friends whom she saw regularly. After her husband, Jim, passed away, she attended the Bonnie Belles group with other widows. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and Mexican train with close friends. She continued traveling with some great lady friends to France, Branson, the east coast and Europe.

Audrey treasured being a "Gramma" and spent many afternoons teaching her grandkids card games and stitchery (cross-stitch, knitting, and quilting). She also attended many Student of the Month assemblies and was a proud Gramma at two of her grandchildren's weddings. She cut the rug one more time at granddaughter Nicole's wedding last July.

Audrey's family would like to thank the compassionate and supportive caregivers at Lakeside Manor, the residential care facility where Audrey spent the last few months of her life. Audrey spent her final weeks living in dignity and comfort thanks to the Lakeside Manor caregivers and guidance from Silverado Hospice nurses and aides.

Private interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, where she will be joining her husband, Jim. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer's Association , PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 www.alz.org, or Silverado Hospice Foundation, 3750 Convoy St., Ste 200, San Diego, CA 92111
