Death of William R. Cullifer
Wm. R. Cullifer, who has been at the Soldiers' Home, at Leavenworth, for the past eleven years, and husband of Mrs. M. Cullifer, of Empire City, died at that place, Saturday week, July 4th. A letter was immediately sent to Mrs. Cullifer at Empire City, telling her of the sad news, but as she gets her mail at this place, was not aware of the fact until Monday last. On receipt of the letter, Mrs. Cullifer and daughter, Mrs. A. [Amanda] McKay and W. T. [William F] and D. M. [David M] Cullifer, sons of the deceased, departed on the first train to have the body brought to this place for burial, but after arriving at Leavenworth and seeing what a creditable burial he had received, decided to let it remain. Mr. Cullifer was an early day Galenaites, and seventy-one years of age at time of his death.
