In addition to their children, Roy Dudley Hatchell, and Glenn Carl Hatchell, George Chapel Hatchell and Mattie Alexander Hatchell had four other children: Ruff Hatchell (b Sep 2, 1901 d Dec 1975); Roger Hatchell; Maude Hatchell; and Susie Lou Hatchell.
George's parents were Theodore C. Hatchell and Eliza Kelley Hatchell. His paternal grandparents were William and Mary Jordan Hatchell.
George and Mattie Hatchell were not only husband and wife, but first cousins, as well.
I personally think that Mr. Hatchell's middle name was actually spelled Chappell, not Chapel, as it is on his grave marker. Grave markers are not always correct, because relatives have incorrectly guessed at the spelling. It's hard to get it right when the deceased no long can offer that information. Sometimes people assume that someone's name is spelled like an object, as in a church's "chapel". Chappell is a very common surname is the Darlington County area.
