PIERR – Josephine Hengel, 85, Pierre, died Wednesday morning at St. Mary's Hospital I Pierre as a result of injuries she surfed in a car-pedestrian accident in Pierre Jan. 18.
She had been struck by a car on North Euclid Avenue in Pierre at 8:57 p.m. Jan. 18, and had remained in the intensive care unit of St. Mary's Hospital since that time.

PIERRE – Funeral mass for Miss Josephine Hengel, 85, who died Wednesday in St. Mary's Hospital, will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter and Paul's Catholic church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
A Christian wake service will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Isburg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Lantsberger reciting.
Memorial fund has been established to the Calvary Cemetery fund in Pierre.
Miss Hengel was born Feb. 10, 1891 to Anthony and Susanna Hengel at Pierre where she attended school, graduating I 1909. She attended Teresa College at Winona, Minn., and worked fr many years as secretary for an insurance company.
Miss Hengel was a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Peter and Paul's church, St. Theresa's Band, Senior Citizen Center, American Legion Auxiliary and the hospital auxiliary.
Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Hengel and Mrs. Mary Rathman, both of Pierre; and three sister-in-laws, Mrs. Albert Hengel, Pierre, Mrs. Edward Hengel, Endicott, N.Y., and Mrs. Louis Hegel of Huntington Park, Calif.
