Mrs. Atha PHILLIPS, 80, whose home was near Sebree, died at 1:40 a.m. Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lucille YOUNG, in Evansville. Surviving besides the daughter are the husband, Charles; three sons, William T., Charles M. and Gilbert M., of Evansville; three brothers, Romey Melton, of Robards, Grover Melton, South Bend, Ind., and Bryan Melton, Evansville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Baptist church in Poole. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, September 16, 1948.

Atha Melton is listed in the 1895 Webster County School Census as the six-year-old daughter of J.W. Melton. She is in the 1900 census with her parents and is listed as a twelve-year-old who was born in May 1888. Her stone at Shady Grove Cemetery gives her dates as 1888-1948, so she would have been 60 years old in 1948, not 80 years old.
