Mrs. C. J. Smith
"Rhoda Jane Miller, daughter of Hiram and Sarah Ann (Miller) Miller, was born in Wayne County, Illinois, on August 18, 1869. Following her marriage to Charles J. Smith at Mount Erie, Illinois, on October 28, 1890, they lived in Illinois, [Arkansas] and Texas and in 1924 came to McPherson, where their children would have the advantage of their church school, Central College.
In 1936 they went to make their home at Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Mrs. Smith's health began to fail, so they returned to McPherson three years ago so they could be close to their daughters.
Following several years of failing health, she passed away at the home of her daughter, Bertha, Saturday evening, June 16, 1951, at the age of eighty-one years.
Mrs. Smith became a member of the Free Methodist Church many years ago, and remained a faithful and active member always.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Charles; four daughters, Edna Barrett, Bertha Dixon, Mary Rhea, and Zelma Gregory; three sons, William, Clarence, and Wallace; twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends.
Services conducted by the Reverend W. W. Loomis and Reverend B. R. Parks, Tuesday, June 19, 1951, at 2:00 o'clock, from the Free Methodist Church. Music, "When I Get to the End of My Way": and "No Disappointments in Heaven," sung by Byron Broadbooks and Alice Green, and "Amazing Grace," sung by the congregation.
