Obituary, Margaret Smith
Margaret Catherine Sweetin, oldest daughter of Albert and Ella Sweetin, was born July 1, 1884 in Arkansas and passed away in the Mary Lanning hospital (sic) in Hastings on Dec 1, 1959 at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 20 days.
On January 11, 1903 she was united in marriage to Samuel S. Fike at Amsterdam. Mo. and on March 1st of the same year they came to Clay County and resided on a farm near Fairfield. This union was blessed with two sons, Ralph and Marion. Mr. Fike passed away on August 16, 1933.
On June 24, 1935 she was married to Eugene W. Smith of Fairfield.
She was a member of the Methodist church (sic) and a Past Noble Grand of the Rebecca Lodge.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, E. W. Smith; sons, Ralph and Marion Fike; four grandchildren, Robert, Rogene, Marlyn and Marion Junior Fike, and one great grandchild, Michelle d'Aun Fike; her sister, Mrs. Mable Spurrier of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Arthur and Ben Sweetin of Pana, Ill.; five step children, other relatives and a host of friends.
services were conducted by Rev. Watters at 2 o'clock on Dec. 23, 1959 at the Methodist church. Mrs. Russell Broderick played organ music. Pallbearers were Mon Lambie, Howard Glass, Harold Culin, William Sessler, Lloyd Dana and Virtus Palmer. Interment was in the Fairfield cemetery (sic).
