Neeses - Mrs. Ruth Etheridge Herndon, 94, of 2031 Slab Landing Road, Neeses, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at Double Branch Baptist Church in Orangeburg, with the Rev. David Royster and the Rev. James Wingate officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Active pallbearers will be A. W. Etheridge, Charles Etheridge, Paul Etheridge, Marion Black, Hammond Fralick, John Robert Boyleston and Ted Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Double Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Herndon was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late Charley Etheridge and the late Minnie Walling Etheridge. She was a member of Double Branch Baptist Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She was retired from Hygrade Meat Packing Plant. She was the widow of the late Prentice Herndon. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe H. Herndon. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Clyde F. (Catherine) Berry of Neeses; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard (Cathy) Whetstone of Pinehill, Mr. and Mrs. Todd (Mitzi) Berry of Canaan Community, Mr. and Mrs. William O. (Rhonda) Corder III of Pinehill Community; great-grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Kent (Amy) Whetstone of Gaston, Mr. Brad Whetstone of Spartanburg, Ms. Tabitha Proveaux of Canaan Community, Britni Berry and Brandon Berry, both of Canaan Community, Taylor Brewington of Pinehill Community, Logan Corder and Jesse Corder, both of Pinehill Community; one great-great-grandchild, Amber Whetstone of Gaston; one brother-in-law, Wilbert Bolin of Orangeburg; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jewel Etheridge of Orangeburg. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Orangeburg. Friends may call at the residence of Clyde and Catherine Berry, 2031 Slab Landing Road, Neeses, and at the funeral home.
