Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Cox, widow of the late Wm. Cox, who passed away in a Sibley hospital Monday morning, will be held from the Ray Noble home this Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock and at the Congregational church in Ocheyedan at 1:30, with the Rev. C. H. Hoffman in charge. Interment will bde made in the local cemetery beside her husband.
About seven years ago Mrs. Cox had the misfortune of falling and fracturing her right hip, from which she never fully recovered. Last Friday at her home, in another fall, the same limb was again broken between the knee and hip. The shock proved too much for her frail body to bear. She was taken to a Sibley hospital and Monday morning, May 1, 1939, departed this life of pain and suffering at the age of 78 years, four months and 23 days.
Laura Edith Shattuck was born in Illinois January 24, 1861, and at the age of four she came to Iowa with her parents, who settled in Story County. There she grew to womanhood and on October 17, 1886, was united in marriage to Johnston Noble. To this union five children were born, three of whom survive, Roy, Ray and Mrs. Jennie Berends. Her first husband died April 19, 1894, and on November 9, 1898, she was united in marriage to Wm. Cox. One son, Lowell, was born to this union.
In 1900 they moved to Osceola County, locating near May City, and in the spring of 1911 they moved to the farm three miles southwest of Ocheyedan, where she lived until the time of her death. Mr. Cox preceded her in death February 15, 1948.
Beside the children mentioned above she leaves to mourn her departure, three sisters, Mrs. Nettie Rich, Ocheyedan, Ia.; Mrs. Nance Ross, Red Elm, S. Dak.; and Mrs. Maggie Binford, Luverne, Minn. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
