Rose Alma Bryant was born in Surry County, North Carolina on March 14, 1914, the third child of Rufus Ellis Bryant and Ida Maude Key Bryant. She passed from this earthly life on October 7th, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wilmer Gray Denny, and an infant son, Tim. Also predeceased were her parents; brothers; Herman, Ralph, Billy, and Frank Bryant and sisters; Mildred Russell, Tennie Kelly, Wilma Turberville and great-grandchild Austin Reid Denny. Surviving siblings are sister Ruth Barger and brother Charles Bryant and wife Margie. Surviving also is brother-in-law Frank Burton Turberville Jr.
Rose leaves three generations to cherish her memory; (son) Stephen Bryant Denny and his long time companion Rosemary Daube; (grandchildren) Heather Lee Denny Altizer and husband Robert, Stephen Scott Denny and wife Kelly, Reid Cameron Denny and wife Chris, and Brandon Todd Denny and wife Nicole; (great-grand children) Richard Thomas Madison IV, Bryant Dixon Madison, Victoria Grace Denny, Katherine Taylor Denny, Natalie Rose Denny, William Edward Denny, Matthew Cameron Denny, Eva Viktoria Denny, Valerie Faith Denny, Elise Caroline Denny, and Lucas Gray Denny.
Rose earned her teacher’s certification at Appalachian State Teacher’s College and taught elementary school (mostly first grade) mainly at Liberty and Nathaniel Green. She and Gray spent their married life in Guilford and Randolph counties and had tobacco farms in each. After their first retirements they worked with the Superior Knit Fabric Shop (Rose) and NCDOT (Gray).
Rose prayed each day for the welfare of the hungry and the homeless. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, please donate to your chosen charity. Per her request, her funeral will be a simple grave side service at Ararat-Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church near Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. The service will be held on October 15, 2016 at 2:00pm.
