JANE WYLEY (CARSON) HARTLEY FREEZE was born April 7, 1818, in Bond County, Illinois. Her parents are unknown. She married JAMES HARTLEY, JR., May 12, 1835, and moved to Polk County, Missouri, near Owen's Mill. Later they settled in Masters, Cedar County, Missouri. Her husband died October 3, 1867. On February 8, 1874, she married JOHN W. FREEZE in Cedar County. He was born August 10, 1820, and died July 10, 1881. He is buried in the Fox-Langford Cemetery in Dade County, Missouri. Her health declined as she had rheumatism and la grippe (influenza) which left her lungs in bad shape, and she had heart trouble. She passed away July 16, 1895, at age 77 at the home of her grandson, Asa M. Hartley, in the Hartley district (now, Needmore) and near Masters, Madison Township, Cedar County, Missouri. She is buried next to her first husband, James Hartley, Jr., but under the name Jane Freeze.
