Pearl "Betty" Sawyer, 93, Topeka, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at a local retirement center.

Betty was born November 22, 1914 in Junction City, the daughter of William A. and Bertha A. (Barton) Biegert. She graduated from Junction City High School and the University of Kansas School of Nursing in 1936.

She served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a nurse with the 316th Station Hospital in England.

She worked at Stormont-Vail Hospital and also in the offices of Dr. Joss and Dr. Selzer.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral

Betty married Charles Lewden Sawyer on September 20, 1945. He died December 9, 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Seel, Johnston, IA, and Mary Derwae, Kenosha, WI;three grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Chapel at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. The family will recieve friends in the chapel an hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th, Topeka, Kansas 66603.

Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
