Mr. Henry Austin, a student at Union Institute, died last Saturday almost
suddenly of appendicitis. He complained on Thursday, but later on was thought to be getting better. Instead he got worse and died about 10 o'clock Saturday. He
had made a speech in his society on Wednesday night. He was a son of Mr. J. W. Austin, formerly of this place, but who has been living in Cabarrus county for several years. The remains were taken to Howell's church, in Cabarrus, for
burial beside his mother, who was a daughter of the late Mr. John Shute of Monroe, and died about a year and a half ago. Mr. H. A. Shute, an uncle of the young man, and for whom he was named, was informed of his nephew's illness on
Saturday morning and hastened to his bedside, but so swift was the work of disease that the young man died before he reached there. The deceased was a good boy. He joined the church at the age of fourteen years,
and when conscious that death was near told those about him that he was ready to go. Prof. Hamilton has said that he was one of the best students he ever had. He was 19 years old.
