Funeral services for Richard Caples, 83, of Lufkin, were held at 3 p.m. Friday in the Zavalla Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Harrison officiating. Burial was in the Zavalla Cemetery.
Mr. Caples died in a local hospital Thursday morning after a long illness. He was born April 27, 1872 in Jackson, Miss. A former resident of Jasper, he had lived here with his son for the past several months. He was a member of Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Caples of Jasper; three daughters, Mrs. Mertie Bentley, Mrs. Maude Weeks and Mrs. Minnie Roberts, all of Lufkin; three sons, Richard C. Caples of Lufkin, J. W. Caples of U.S. Air Force, Yuma, AZ., and Howard Caples of Zwolle, La.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Mary Bentley, Mrs. Aileen Strange and Mrs. Addie Lee McCreary, all of Lufkin; four step-sons, Hugh Vestal of Midland, Gordon Vestal of Lufkin, Jack Sharpe of Beaumont and Horace Sharpe of Houston; two brothers, Albert Caples of Jasper and Hubert Caples of Jonesboro, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Tinkle of Beaumont and Miss Omie Caples of Jonesboro, La.; 45 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
