Wert H. Harford
Wert Harris Harford, 85, 1105 Randolph, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at a Topeka Convalescent center.
Mr. Harford was a Topeka firefighter for 28 years before he retired at the rank of captain in 1953. He later was founder of Capitol Truck Lines which he operated for five years before he sold the company. He previously worked for the old Wolfe Packing Co. from 1918 until 1925.
He was born May 20, 1899, at Baldwin City, the son of Allison D. and Lydia Skinner Harford. He lived in Topeka since 1918.
Mr. Harford was a member of Central Congregational Church, Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM, and International Association of Firefighters.
He was married to Helen G. McClenny Aug. 9,1923. She survives.
Services will be at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
