JONES COUNTY, GEORGIA: Betty Jean Agnew Downs, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at her residence after an extended illness.

A burial service will follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Gray. Pastor Joey Hamrick of the Gray Church of God will officiate the services.

Mrs. Downs was born in Cordele, Georgia, on August 10, 1933, and had lived in Jones County for nearly twenty years, having lived more than forty years in Bartow, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Moyce and Ruby Peacock of Macon, Georgia, the wife of forty-six years of the late Cecil Agnew of Bartow, and the wife of six years of Jimmy Lee Downs of Gray. Mrs. Downs worked for the Polk County School Board and retired from the Polk County Sheriff's Department in Bartow.

Mrs. Downs is survived by her immediate family: two sons and one daughter; one sister; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.
