John Franklin Hamman was a son of Elijah Phillip Hamman and Rachel Jane Avery Hamman.

John Franklin Hamman married first to Fannie Jones in 1868. They had a daughter.

John Franklin Hamman married second to Lovedy Isabell Melton on December 24, 1873 in Prairie County, Arkansas. They had nine children.

J. H. Hammon (sic) died at the home of his son Clyde Hammon (sic), in this city Saturday and was buried Sunday at Brown, Cemetery. Mr. Hammond (sic) has been a resident of
Pottawatomie county for more than 30 years. He first lived on a farm near old Brown and later moved to another farm 3 miles West of Tecumseh where he lived until he moved to
Tecumseh and resided in this city until his death. The funeral was held at the Baptist church. The body was laid to rest in the Brown Cemetery.

The old Hamman farm was settled in 1892.
