Services for Morelle Emmons, 92, of Ruston, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in the First Baptist Church of Ruston. Officiating will be Rev. Andy Johnson.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston.

Mr. Emmons died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in Ruston after a short illness.

Mr. Emmons was a native of Dodson, a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, received a master's degree from Louisiana State University, and a resident of Lincoln Parish for the past 73 years. He was Superintendent of Lincoln Parish Schools for twenty-four years until his retirement.

He was honored many times during his lifetime for the contributions he made to the educational community of Lincoln Parish and ultimately to the state of Louisiana.

He chose education as his life's work and dedicated his time and effort toward helping to make education a dominant force in Ruston and Lincoln Parish, Mr. Emmons has remained a viable leader in this effort throughout his retirement.

All who have known him understand and appreciate the positive, personal influence he has had upon the many individuals with whom he has worked and known.

Mr. Emmons has actively participated in church, local civic clubs, as well as local and statewide educational organizations. His influence as a leader in all these areas has been recognized on numerous occasions with many honors and awards.

His honors include being names Superintendent Emeritus, Lincoln Parish Schools in 1985 and being selected to receive the first Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Education, Louisiana Tech University, the same year.

In 1986, he was awarded the fourteenth Doctor of Laws degree by Louisiana Tech University. His affiliation with the First Baptist Church provided opportunities for serving as a deacon, on the Board of Trustees, as a Sunday School Teacher, and as a Department Superintendent over a period of many years.

Mr. Emmons was preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Trissielee Wyrick Emmons.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Coleman Ware Emmons of Ruston; two daughters, Lt. Col and Mrs. James C. Logan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dr. and Mrs. James Davis Green of Ruston; grandchildren, Dr. and Mrs. James Whitfield Logan of Little Rock, Ark., Maj. and Mrs. Coy Jameson Briant of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Emmons Green of Shreveport, and John Miller Green of Shreveport; great grandchildren, Olivia Phoebe Logan, Whitfield Darby Logan, Nathaniel Paul Briant, Melissa Renea Briant, and Branson Cameron Green; a sister, Mavis Bickley and husband Douglas of Bastrop; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Benji Baugh, Oscar Barnes, Buddy Napper, Jacob Pearce, M. T. Brannon, and H. L. Henry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Melton, E. Lee Young, and members of the Kiwanis Club.

Memorials may be made to the Emmons Scholarship Fund, Louisiana Tech University Foundation, P.O. Box 3183, Ruston, La. 71272 or to the First Baptist Church of Ruston Building Fund.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the funeral home.
