Donn Kefes was born to William Paul Kefes and Katherine Jeanette Harbaugh in Kenosha, WI. He had one sister, Virginia Marie who was born in 1919. When Donn was just a little boy, his mother decided to take her two children (Donn and Virginia) and drive to Hollywood, CA. They left Kenosha behind, and drove the 2,000 miles across the country in 1933, camping along the way. They stayed in bungalow courts upon their arrival to Hollywood. Donn attended elementary, junior high and high school in the Hollywood area. He grew to be a very lanky, 6-5 inches tall. He was a quiet, shy, reserved boy. He enjoyed a loving relationship with his mother and sister. Donn served overseas in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the early 1950's. He returned to Los Angeles and environs and worked at several locations, including Technicolor. He married once to Lois A. Parker on March 11,1960 in Los Angeles, but divorced after a brief marriage. He had no children. He was a great uncle to his niece and nephew. One of his avocations was underwater diving off the coast of California where he would dive for abalone shells. Sadly, Donn became afflicted with MS in the early 1960's and became confined to bed in a nursing home in the San Fernando Valley. One of the visitors he had at Shelter Isle was the movie star Loretta Young who held his hand and gave him a bible; she was radiant and he long remembered her kindness. He died in 1967, and is buried in close proximity to his mother at Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills overlooking Burbank where he once worked and lived.
