John A. Kelch, son of Jacob and Mary Ann Holmes Kelch was born on a farm near Fairmont, October 1, 1892. He passed away November 14, 1980, at the age of 88 years.

He was married to Ada C. Bricker of Crete, December 23, 1916. To this union were born a son Gaylord LeRoy, and two daughters, Ila Maurine and Lois Beryle.

At the time of marriage, he was employed at the Yost Lumber Co. in Fairmont. In 1917 he was transferred to Inland as manager of that firm.

Later he returned to Fairmont where he farmed until 1937. The John Kelch family moved to Hebron where he was employed at the L. L. Coryell Oil Co. until the year 1942, when the family moved to Grand Island.

John worked as guard at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant for three years, and then took a job as city bus driver until he and Ada moved to Lincoln in 1959 where he was employed as maintenance engineer for the Coryell apartments until 1962. He retired due to ill health. John and Ada moved to Holmes Lake Nursing home in 1974.

John is survived by a son, Gaylord; daughters, Ila M. Mueller and Mrs. Lyal (Lois) Warboys; and son-in-law, Lyal Warboys, all of Lincoln; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn E. Kelch of Henderson Nursing home, Henderson; sister-in-law, Mary Kelch, Fairmont; and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife,his parents, three sisters, two brothers, and one grandson.

John was a member of Fairmont Methodist church.

Funeral services were held at Roper and Sons in Lincoln at 1 p.m., on Monday, November 17, 1980, with Rev. Jay Vetter officiating. Carlton Gordon sang "Whispering Hope" and "The Lord's Prayer.

Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
