He was Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy during WWII, abourd the Tank Landing Craft LST-878. He was ship's pastry chef and also drove landing craft in the Battle of Okinawa.
Ethel Mae Logan and Virgil Aloyisus Schuller met at the Roof Garden Ballroom at Arnold's Park West Obaboji, Iowa and the relationship soon blossomed. They were wed on February 10, 1948 at St Mary's Catholic church in Mallard Iowa. Best man was Virgil's 1st cousin Mark Schuller. Matron of Honor was Ethel Mae's sister-in-law Genevieve Logan.
The old St Mary's church building, where the couple were married, had been built in part by Michael Schuller Sr., Virgil's grandfather. Mike had also been on the building committee.
Virgil was a mason by trade, even though he had attended technical school for electrical and refrigeration in Memphis Tennessee.
Virgil and Ethel Mae "Pat" are the parents of 5 sons and 2 daughters: Joel, William, Gregory, Fredrick, Jane, Paul, and Karen.
