SHIRLEY LENORE SOWARDS, 90, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Huntington, died Sunday May 23, 2004. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Lantz officiating. Burial was at an earlier date in Woodmere Memorial Park. She was born January 4, 1914, in Lavalette, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arnold and Elsie Nixon Fuller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey B. Sowards, and a sister, Flora Sikes. She was a former secretary for Island Creek Coal Co. and was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church. She is survived by a niece, Evelyn Platt of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Casciato of Columbia, S.C., and several great nieces and nephews. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Central United Methodist Church. Beard Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
