Thomas Gale Hawkins passed away on June 11, 2010. Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend returned home to a reunion with his brothers, sisters and parents who all preceded him in death.

Tom was born October 19, 1922 in Salt Lake City, the youngest of eight children born to Thomas Ernest and Myrtle Sherrill Hawkins. He graduated from East High School and from Stevens Henager College.

He served honorably in World War II under General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Silver Star for his courageous action. He also received a Purple Heart.

He gave up his dream to play professional baseball when he met the love of his life. He married Lucille Bender on June 13, 1947.

Tom worked as an accountant, his last and longest employment being with Commercial Shearing for nineteen years. He could not leave his vocation at work since he was called for most of his life to be Ward or Stake Clerk, serving faithfully under several bishoprics and four stake presidencies in the Mount Olympus Stake for twenty-three years.

Tom was a good, quiet man who loved sports, especially baseball. He was happiest when he was teasing his wife or other family members. He was a great example of honesty, integrity, and dedication.

Tom is survived by his wife Lucille Hawkins; children: Thomas D. (Tawny) Hawkins, Riverton; Paul (Diane) Hawkins, Victor, ID; James R. (Lisa) Hawkins, Salt Lake City; John D. (Sandra) Hawkins, Erda; Jane (Tom) Sharp, Preston, ID; twenty-four grandchildren; and thirty-six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Mountain View Memorial Estates Mortuary, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Saturday.
