"Lee" was a football star at Baker University, where he was also president of the senior class, secretary of the athletic association, and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

He was an ordained minister, a master brick and stone mason, executive officer of a battery of Howitzers in the battle of Argonne in WW1, a teacher of history and political science, a high school principal, a school board superintendant, and in retirement the builder and owner of White Oak Camp on Rt. 66 in or near Reeds Missouri.

The "SS" at the bottom of his tombstone stands for the Silver Star, awarded him for some act of heroism during World War I. The award was originally called the "Citation Star."
