ENIGMA — Charles Darris Benefield, 56, of Enigma, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center, Tifton, Tift County, Georgia. Funeral services was held Thursday, April 19, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Enigma Baptist Church in Enigma, Berrien County, Georgia. The Rev. Pete Jones officiated and burial followed at the Enigma Cemetery.

Anthony Barnes, J.D. Mullis, Rocky Lott, Jimmy Christman, Faron O'Neal and Jimmy Lee served as pallbearers. Roger Bowen, Ricky Barnes and Nick Bombardier served as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Benefield was born on Jan. 2, 1951, in Fulton County. He was the adopted son of Jack Darris Benefield and Annette Lott Benefield, both deceased. He was a member of the Enigma Baptist Church and former member of the Merchant Marines. He was disabled.

Survivors included his wife, Charlene Griffin Benefield of Enigma; three sons, Dwayne Benefield, Dwight Benefield and Johnny Benefield, all of Enigma; two daughters, Mary Powers of Valdosta and Melissa Benefield of Moultrie; and nine grandchildren.

Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals in Tifton, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.
