Mrs. Ameline Somers, aged 88, passed away Tuesday afternoon about 3 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Woodward. The deceased, who was best known in Ossian as Grandma Somers, was one of the pioneers of Indiana.
She was Ameline Rock, a daughter of Michael and Margaret Rock, born August 15, 1826, at Bottitot, Co., Virginia. At the age of eight, she came with her parents overland in wagons to Indiana settling in Allen county near Williamsport. When 16 years old she was married to William Somers, a son of Joshua and Eliza Somers, of Allen county, who were also pioneers from Virginia.
Mr. Somers died May 20, 1901, and since that time Mrs. Somers has lived among her four daughters, who are Mrs. Sarah Burnett, Mrs. Ella Woodward, Mrs. Ioda Green and Mrs. Martha Mahnensmith. One son David Somers, of near Warren, O., also survives. Five children are also deceased. Besides the immediate family 24 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren survive.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p. m. from the M. E. church Rev. L. W. Kemper of South Milford, a grandson by marriage, will have charge of the services and burial will be at Oak Lawn.
