Funeral services were at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Markus was born April 30, 1898, at Holt, near Thief River Falls, to Eilev and Henrietta Aakre. She moved with her family as a child to Thief River Falls and grew up there, graduating from Thief River High School in 1919.. She came to Bemidji and attended normal school, then taught at Hopkins, Thief River Falls and at country schools in the Bemidji area.
She married Ted Markus, Sept. 9, 1934, at Thief River Falls, and they farmed there. They sold the farm in the early 1940s and moved to Tacoma, Wash., to live during the war. They returned to Bemidji after the war and she graduated from Bemidji State Teachers College in 1954. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Bemidji Garden Club, the hospital auxiliary and the Study Club.
She is survived by a sister, Wilma (Mel) Olson of Tacoma, Wash.; two brothers, Richard Aakre of Grand Rapids and Arnold Askre of Lanesboro; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964 and by two sisters and two brothers.
