Died on Thursday, February 22, at about 8 o’clock a.m., Philo Noah Beardslee passed from this life into eternity at the residence of his youngest son, John Beardslee, in Smith county, Kansas. He was one of the early settlers of the country, having settled here in 1872, when the country was comparatively new and inhabited by the Indians. He took an active part in the building up of the county. He was born in New York on March 17, 1822. He moved to Iowa, and thence to Kansas from that state. He was united in marriage to Miss Salina Rickard on March 28, 1848, who preceded him into the other world a number of years ago. He is survived by five sons, one daughter, twenty-three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted from the home of John Beardslee at 10 a.m., by Rev. G.W. Hummel and interment was made at the Webb cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest by the side of his wife. The family have the sympathy of all in their hour of affliction.
