GEORGE P. KELLY
---George P. Kelly, son of Madison and Arthrusia Kelly, born September 14, 1858 near Glenwood, Missouri, died March 15, 1930, at his home in Gifford, Missouri at the ripe old age of seventy-one years, six months and one day.
---On November 6, 1881 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Bozart to which happy union was born two daughters, Mrs. Maud Cline, Brookfield, Missouri and Mrs. Fay Poston of Gifford, Missouri.
---Uncle George (as he was commonly called) was the last of a family of twelve children who have long since passed through the valley of death and his call Thursday chronicles the last of a very large family.
---In addition to his beloved wife and two daughters, two sons-in-law, Walter Cline and Ralph Poston, grandchildren, Cecil Cline, Madaline and Roma Jean Poston, were all at his bedside when he died.
---He united with the Christian Church at Nind, Missouri in 1894 and in the year of 1900 he united with the Gifford Christian Church and has lived a true christian life to the end.
---Uncle George has been in failing health for the past year and although laboring in pain he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those who often called upon him in the line of his profession. His last illness began about four months ago and since that date he was confined to the house and tho suffering untold pain and agony, he bore up manfully and was never heard to complain and was always cheerful.
---Mr. Kelley, for the past thirty-eight years, has served as peace officer in both Adair and Macon county's and for the past several years he was also town marshal and constable and although having to deal with the criminal class he never used his office to display his authority or in any way to engender strife.
---The beautiful floral display in addition to the large crowd was a silent token to the high regard in which he was held. Many a poor soul whom misfortune visited can look back and recall the many times friend Kelly was there, a friend in need and yet made no outward display of the many acts of kindness, ready to pass on to those more unfortunate.
---The wife has lost a companion, the children a devoted father and the community a friend, and tho his mortal remains will crumble back to the dust, his memory will remain and those who have shared his sorrows and his joys will console themselves that in his death he has left behind a legacy that will endure.
---The funeral was held in Gifford Christian Church with Elders T.E. Hulse, Fred Head and Clarence Kessinger. Flower bearers were Ray Turner and Arthur Head.
