Doris Lee Jones-Johnson, resident of Okmulgee, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at the age of 88. Doris was born January 17, 1922 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Elvin and Maggie (Bean) Goforth. She was born a coalminer's daughter and was the first of her family to receive a college education. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, Doris received her Master's Degree in Education. She spent over 40 years in education, starting her teaching career in Arkansas and teaching a few years in Tulsa, however Doris spend most of her life in Ponca City. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ponca City, NEA, AAUW and the OSU Alumni Association. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and playing Bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, George Ortman and Marion Jones, two brothers, John M. and Marvin Goforth and a granddaughter, Karasten Jones. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Ginni Jones of Beggs, two granddaughters, Trinnica Jones and Laurinelle Moudy, both of Beggs, three great grandchildren, Jonathan Jones, Allysen Moudy and Carson Moudy, all of Beggs and her husband, Floyd Johnson of San Antonio, Texas. A Private Family Committal Service will be held at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. Arrangements are under the direction of the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home of Okmulgee.
